I’m Kathy Swart. I am a birth doula, birth educator & recently certified as a high risk birth doula. My passion is to see couples be empowered to have the birth they would like. As a birth doula, I don’t give the mother strength, instead I can show a mother how strong she is.
About Me
I am originally from South Africa, married to my dream guy, and we have 4 beautiful and uniquely different kiddos. Each pregnancy was different, and each birth was different too. Our home is never quiet and never perfect, but it’s ours. I kinda am obsessed with birth and babies. Big fan of the Netflix show, “call the midwife”.
What I Offer
I am a DONA certified birth doula, and also offer basic lactation assistance. I am also a MEGi High Risk Doula. When you understand what is happening to your body and how you can work with labor (not against it or try to run away from it) it is so helpful when making choices, as you go through labor and delivery.
I have 4 options of support. It all starts with a chat, do we gel? Am I available? What do you need? Once that is decided on, we start our journey together.
I will be adding a High Risk Doula Support option in the near future.
What is a doula?
A woman who is employed to provide guidance and support to a pregnant woman during labor.
A doula is a professional labor assistant who provides physical and emotional support to you and your partner during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. An example of what a double may offer includes giving attention to physical comfort through techniques such as touch and massage and assistance with breathing.
The word "doula" comes from ancient Greek word, meaning "a woman who serves." Today, "doula" refers to a professional trained to provide emotional, physical and informational support to women throughout their pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum period.

Kathy was our doula in 2024 for our first baby's home birth. Kathy is in her element in the pregnancy, birth and postpartum care of women. She was so educational and easy to talk to during our appointments leading up to birth. She went out of her way to meet our midwife since they hadn't done a birth together before. She was the first to get there when I was in labor and it was just her supporting us until my midwife arrived just 60-90 minutes before I gave birth! Kathy single handedly led me through active labor and transition for many hours. She has such a diverse experience with so many families and in many settings (homes & hospitals) that she can flex to whatever you need at that moment. I was in labor land and she did a great job giving my husband tasks and keeping me focused on the next step. I had my dream home birth and I truly could not have done it without Kathy. She is passionate about birth and never stops learning new information and ways to support moms. I know hiring a doula is a big and vulnerable decision & I cannot recommend her enough!
